What's up R-Truth?

R – Truth.

I’ve never considered myself a fan of the guy. Truth isn’t bad on the mic, but he’s never been that great either. In the ring he has some flashy offence, however, he can be accused of being sloppy and completely missing some of his moves. His theme song also annoys the shit out of me. In the words of Ghandi, ‘Truth stands, even if there be no public support. It is self-sustained.’ Truth has been drifting, going through the motions with little to do for months… Until Mondays Raw.

Was it the greatest heel turn ever? Heck no. Truth and Morrison on the stick together to open the show was an absolutely terrible idea. For someone who’s been in the WWE for so long, it never ceases to amaze me how shocking John Morrison is as a talker. Its one of the main reason (as well as his backstage issues) I feel he wont be WWE champion for quite sometime. The post match beat down went on far too long and you could sense the audience losing interest towards the end. What the segment did achieve however, was making R-Truth interesting.

Smokers are frowned upon in today’s society and I thought the whole smoking angle played out very well. Sure, the “that’s illegal” and knowing “think of the children” chants in the audience were hilarious (us Brits, eh?) and almost took away some of its effectiveness but, as Truth was leaving the arena the fans were booing him like crazy. We’ve already seen anti- smoking and parental groups complaining about the effect the ‘cool outlaw’ could have on children… alls I can say to them is a big fuck you.

In addition, I thought Truth played the ‘breaking man’ extremely well. His expressions and mannerisms in accompaniment to his creepy embracing and stroking of John Morrison (no homo) were excellent… it’s just a shame the segment went on for so long.

So what was the point in adding Truth to the WWE title match, only to take him out of it the week after? There are a couple of realistic scenarios. Perhaps, it was to set up this exact character change. It set up a situation that allowed it to happen; it could be as simple as that. WWE could shake up the title match again next week on Raw and make it a fatal four way. The draft next week is a really interesting prospect… mainly because I have an idea that makes me feel a little sick. I think WWE plans on putting the belt on R-Truth.

Ok, now that we’ve all cleared the barf away, lets break it down. Edge retiring from WWE leaves a MASSIVE hole on Smackdown. One of the top faces on Raw are absolutely going to be drafted to the blue brand. Could it be John Cena? It would give him new feuds and fresh matches, moreover, John Cena is advertised to appear at the Smackdown after the draft. Now, while he sporadically appears on Smackdown, it seems a little coincidental, no? Ok ok ok, I don’t think Vinnie Mac will risk drafting his top star from his top show. Randy Orton or perhaps a heel like Sheamus could be drafted with one of the current faces on SD stepping up their game to take Edges place. There has been talk of turning The Miz face in future so therefore drafting Cena to Smackdown might not be such a risk after all. Raw is lacking in main event heels at the moment and R-Truth could have fresh feuds with Morrison, The Miz and John Cena… it makes horrible, horrible sense. With correct booking and build up, R-Truth could eventually pose a legitimate threat to the WWE championship.
The Truth has had a main event run in TNA (including a title reign) and he has been in multiple world title elimination chamber matches, technically, he’s experienced enough for the next level.

I don’t WANT R-Truth to be challenging for the title, I’d much prefer Morrison, Dolph Ziggler, CM Punk (realistically) Daniel Bryan or Zack Ryder (unrealistically) challenging for the title. However, there’s a reason WWE decided to dedicate a solid half an hour to a superstar not included on the Wrestlemania or Extreme Rules (as yet) cards. WWE has something big in store for R-Truth. Lets just sit back and see how this plays out.

Now that’s the truth.

Thanks for reading. Bit rushed and written late today… so I hope I’m coherent enough. Feedback on facebook or twitter is absolutely welcome, or, leave a comment below.
